Moreno is a district made up by the following areas: La Reja, Moreno, Moreno Sur, Francisco Álvarez, Cuartel V., Trujui, and Paso del Rey.
Moreno is located in Western Greater Buenos Aires, 17 km away from the City of Buenos Aires.
Moreno was named after the train station Mariano Moreno that was inaugurated in Western Greater Buenos Aires on April 12, 1860, on the line that is today known as Sarmiento line. The rails went from the "Estacion del Parque" (Park Station) up to Moreno. The trip was made by two trains. The first trip was made by the locomotive known as "La Constitucion," and the second one was made by the train called "La Porteña."
Argentina's first telegraphic communication was also made between the "Estacion del Parque" (Park Station) and Moreno.
Amancio Alcorta donated four block of land belonging to his country house "Paso del Rey," (Passage of the King) to be used for the construction ground of installation for the new train station. Of course these lands were situated close to the Moreno station. When the project was completed the area began to develop and the first efforts to satisfy the necessities of the passengers where made. The station was also used as a supply depot for travelers.
The plots surrounding the station were then sold and people started to settle. The development and characteristics of the new area were rather unique because it was close to the city of Buenos Aires.
These original constructions in the Moreno District used to be part of Lujan. The people's divided political and religious opinions started to generate problems, and this caused that, on October 25th, 1864, the project to separate the province of Buenos Aires in forty five districts was approved. During this division of the land the areas of Moreno, Merlo, Las Heras, Suipacha, Ramallo, and Chacabuco, among others, were created.
The Moreno district is today smaller than it originally was, because part of its lands where used in the creation of the areas General Rodriguez and General Sarmiento.
