General Rodriguez is located in Western Greater Buenos Aires, 55 km away from the City of Buenos Aires.
In the year 1590, the lands belonging to Lugán was divided into various districts; General Rodriguez, Luján, and Mercedes were originally part of the "Los Pagos del Luján Arriba" (Higher Lands of Lujan), and the "Pagos de Luján Abajo" (Lower Lands of Luján) was divided into the districts of Pilar, Escobar and part of Tigre.
General Rodriguez has an estimated population of about 95,000 inhabitants and during the weekends that number increases by about 10,000 more that come to spend their days of in the many holiday houses.
During the times when General Rodriguez was founded most of the inhabitants in Buenos Aires still lived in the Capital of the Country, the City of Buenos Aires, and the wealthiest families resided in the neighborhoods of San Telmo and Monserrat.
