Marcos Paz also known as the "Ciudad del Arbol" (City of the Tree), celebrated on October 25th, 1998, the 120th anniversary since its official foundation in 1878. The districts real foundation took place on December 24th, 1870, when the first train arrived to the train station Colonel Doctor Marcos Paz. There the neighbors, authorities, and visitors celebrated the arrival of the train with a great and classic "asado" (barbecue), and after that the auctioning of plots and blocks took place organized by the landlord Juan M. Feiijoo.
After the auction, Marcos Paz started to grow. The fencing done by land owners didn't always respect the street limits, causing the neighboring municipality of Merlo to designate Carlos Chapeaurouge to do the design of streets and avenues in Marcos Paz.
The development and organization recently acquired convinced everyone that the conditions where just right to declare Marcos Paz an independent area. On October 2nd, 1878, by means of Law Number 1244, Marcos Paz and its surrounding rural areas where officially declared new areas of Greater Buenos Aires, along with Merlo, General Las Heras, and La Matanza.
